No matter how hard one tries, aging is inevitable. As our participants grow older, they want to maintain their strength and mobility while avoiding pain and injury.
In this workshop we will explore a series of functional exercises that can be incorporated into our toning classes and review those more effective traditional exercises that are equally quite functional. Regressions and progressions for different fitness levels will be covered as well as proper technique and safety considerations. The workshop will conclude with a master class demonstrating the teaching skills required for success. Our goal is to improve the functional performance of all the adults attending our classes in a safe and inclusive manner, while having fun!

Take Care of Your Voice, Take Care of Yourself (French)
In many professions, the voice is the main vehicle used to share information. It is the key tool for transmitting knowledge, managing conflicts, and structuring an activity. Yet, how do we maintain good vocal hygiene? Vocal hygiene is not taught in a systematic way to people who use their voice daily, which increases the risk of developing voice disorders.
Voice disorders are not well-known in Quebec. Several fitness instructors, specifically sports trainers and coaches, will experience unpleasant symptoms associated with these disorders, not knowing what to do or who to consult. This practical and interactive workshop will focus on demystifying these disorders by presenting normal voice production anatomy and physiology, the vicious circle of bad vocal use, possible symptoms, and particularly the numerous strategies for voice disorder prevention, proper vocal hygiene, and vocal cord training.

Size Inclusivity & It’s Impact on How People Approach Fitness (English)
People who feel they have been judged because of their weight are less likely to engage in fitness. This course will break down concepts such as weight bias, fitness idealism and the impact of diet culture on people’s relationship with exercise. From there we will focus on tools you can use in your practice to help your clients navigate the above concepts in their fitness journey. On the physical side we will look at movement considerations and how to modify common exercises. When it comes to mindset and easing client’s trepidation we will discuss how to create a size inclusive intake form, how to create an environment that focuses on fitness achievement versus weight loss achievements, and most importantly how to change the way people view exercise.
