Du Parc YMCA
Women and Rap—Bringing People Together!
Du Parc YMCA - March 15 2018
On March 8, the École du Hip-Hop intergénérationnelle celebrated International Women’s Day by exploring the place of women in the rap world.
For this event, we invited rapper and violinist Kayiri to speak about her journey and her work with the Bad Nylon collective, an all-female rap group. Discussing classical music, her Burkinabe roots and her determination to follow her dreams, Kayiri inspired both young and not-so-young audience members during her presentation. She also got them dancing by performing a few of her songs.
All in all, the event was a great success, drawing a good number of teens and seniors and featuring lots of great conversation. The École du Hip-Hop is a pilot project that aims to bring teens and seniors together, and now organizers have a winning formula they can build on to continue meeting, sharing and making connections between generations.
Thank you to everyone who participated and we hope to see you soon!
